Historical Museum in Paramus NJ
Looking for a museum with a rich history in the area of Paramus? The Fritz Behnke Historical Museum is the perfect choice! It is named after Fritz Behnke, a Paramus native, born in 1919. Fritz and his brothers created “Behnke’s Paramus Supply Building.” Fritz had a passion for history and thoroughly enjoyed working for the museum. After Fritz’s death in 2012, the museum has continued on in his memory and his son Fred spends a lot of time volunteering there.
Going Back in Time to Paramus NJ
The main goal of the museum is to show visitors what Paramus was like 90 years ago. There was tons of farmland with many crops. There were and still are lots of greenhouses and farming vehicles. The museum features original furnishings of a farmhouse with authentic tools used for the housewife’s chores. There is also one of the first electric washing machines ever created, a duplicate of one featured in the Smithsonian Institute. There are even old fashioned electronics like radios and a RCA Victor-Victrola.
